Frequently Asked Questions

Of all the conditions we handle in our office, the following are by far the most common. Luckily, we specialize in treating such conditions with the type of chiropractic care that provides much sought-after relief to our patients. Below you will find some information on the most treated conditions:

What is chiropractic care?

A treatment method based on the relationship between the spine, nervous system, and surrounding muscles and tissues, chiropractic care focuses on natural rehabilitation and revitalization of the body in addition to total body wellness and preventative care. Chiropractic care focuses on healing the body, rather than masking symptoms of underlying conditions, in order to help patients achieve an optimal level of wellness.

Is a chiropractor a doctor?

Chiropractors are doctors of chiropractic. To become licensed, chiropractors complete a similar educational process as medical doctors, finishing several years of school in addition to passing exams and meeting practice standards. The educational requirements of chiropractors are among the most rigorous in the health care field.

Is chiropractic care safe?

When performed by a licensed chiropractor, adjustments are one of the safest treatment methods available. Non-invasive and drug-free, chiropractic care provides an effective alternative to risky surgeries and side effect-inducing medications.

Is an adjustment painful?

Most patients experience relief - not pain - during an adjustment. Some patients might experience slight discomfort during an adjustment, usually followed by reduced pain and mental clarity.

What causes the sound during an adjustment?

Actually, adjustments do not always produce a sound. Often, however, adjustments do create the sound of a spinal "release", or "popping" sound. The sound is caused by gas rushing in to fill the partial vacuum created when the joints are slightly separated. This sound is painless and totally harmless.

How many treatments are required?

Each patient and each condition is unique, and requires a different number of treatments to reach desired wellness goals. All patients, however, experience some level of relief and improvement after the first adjustment.

Is it OK to see a chiropractor if I'm pregnant?

Anytime is a good time for a better functioning nerve system. Pregnant mothers find that chiropractic adjustments improve their pregnancy and make delivery easier for themselves and their baby. Adjusting methods are always adapted to a patients size, weight, age, and condition of health.

Can children benefit from chiropractic care?

Yes! Children tend to be very physically active and often experience injuries such as falls, strains, and blows, which can affect their nervous system. If your child displays symptoms of discomfort, headaches, changes in behavior or movements, they could be experiencing back or neck pain, or other misalignments that can cause stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Many of these symptoms can best be treated with chiropractic care.

How many adults suffer with chronic pain?

It is estimated that chronic pain affects 47 percent of U.S. adults. A study from Gallup-Healthway's shows that 31 percent of U.S. adults have some sort of painful neck or back condition. If you suffer from any of the conditions listed below, or any other type of chronic pain, there is no need to suffer any longer in silence. Let us treat the source of your pain conveniently in our office.

What can I do for lower back pain?

The part of our body that allows us to have such capacity for mobility is also the part that is most susceptible to injury and pain. Treatment can seem elusive as recurrence is common. A chiropractic treatment involves simply readjusting the lower lumbar vertebrae and pelvis, which helps give you back your normal position of your bones and joints.

Can adjustments help neck pain?

Many of our everyday activities can contribute to neck pain. Anything from poor posture to the slightest injury or stress can cause that all too familiar ache at the top of your spine or base of your head. Often, simple adjustments to your neck's vertebrae can help ease or even eliminate this irritating pain in your neck.

What causes my headaches?

Almost everyone has experienced a headache at some point. But severe tension or sinus headaches, or chronic migraines are not only excruciating, they can rob you of your quality of life. Depending on the type of headache the patient has, the chiropractic approach is to manipulate the upper two cervical vertebrae, as well as make other pinpointed adjustments to the spine. We also employ Trigger Point Therapy to work on the knotted muscles (trigger points) that may affect your headaches.

Can you manipulate a whiplash injury?

Whiplash is injury to the neck, caused by an abrupt jerking motion of the head. In most cases, injuries are too soft tissues such as disks and ligaments. Our treatment utilizes a combination of spinal manipulation and soft tissue rehabilitation.

What is sciatica?

Sciatica is a common type of pain affecting the large nerve that runs from the lower back down the back of each leg. It usually affects only one side of the lower body, but the pain can range from a mere irritation to severely debilitating.

Can Chiropractic Treat Carpal Tunnel?

Carpal Tunnel is a condition that affects the nerves in the wrist and causes a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort when using the hand. This condition occurs when the nerves in the wrist become irritated or blocked and cause pain, tingling, numbness or weakness in the fingers, hands, and wrist. 10 percent of people who suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) are usually domestic workers, secretaries, computer users, musicians, and others who do repetitive tasks with their hands. A wrist problem may be the result of a misalignment in one or more joints in the neck, shoulder, elbow, or wrist.
Chiropractic care can be an effective and non-invasive approach to preventing and relieving carpal tunnel symptoms.
